Where Intellect Meets Imagination

Academic support designed for curious, complex, one-of-a-kind learners.

Hi, I’m Emma.

I’m Emma Speer—a Yale-educated tutor, writer, and performer with over a decade of experience helping students thrive across subjects, learning styles, and neurotypes.

I’ve helped students from elementary through doctorate, but my sweet spot is middle- and high-schoolers to cultivate a foundational confidence and love for learning early on.

My background in cognitive science and the arts allows me to bring a rare mix of rigor, creativity, and intuition to every session. I specialize in working with brilliant, complex learners—including high achievers, late bloomers, and neurodivergent students—who need support that’s as dynamic and thoughtful as they are.

Whether we’re tackling calculus, crafting a college essay, or building executive function strategies, I tailor each lesson to the student in front of me. My goal is always the same: to help students feel capable, curious, and confident in their own minds.

My students have gone on to UPenn Wharton, Columbia, Brown, Princeton, University of Michigan, Northeastern, NYU and more.

The Help You Need.

The Vibe You Want.

Parents often come to me when their child…

  • Is bright and capable, but school isn’t clicking

  • Struggles with focus, overwhelm, or self-doubt

  • Gets A’s but still feels bored, anxious, or unseen

  • Is creative, intense, or quirky (in the best way)

  • Has big ideas but trouble getting started—or finishing

  • Needs someone who can challenge them and get them

  • Would thrive with a consistent, caring mentor who sees the whole picture

Success Stories

I work closely with families who care deeply about their children’s growth—not just academically, but as whole humans. Here’s what some parents have had to say. (Sorry not sorry they’re so long— this is the kind of feedback you get when you change a kid’s life over the course of years.)

As a parents of 3 (now adult) children, we have had a lot of experience with tutors over the years. Some good, some not so good, and one exceptional experience…

If your child needs assistance, I cannot recommend Emma Speer highly enough. We were lucky to be introduced to Emma right after my daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia during her elementary school years. Up until that point, Claire was scoring better than average grades, but was struggling mightily keeping up with the increased workload and the more complex subjects like Algebra and Chemistry. And while her Report Cards were certainly satisfactory, achieving her scores came with a level of effort, frustration, stress, and anxiety that was hard to witness. Simply, Claire was having a very difficult time, which was negatively impacting her overall well-being and self-confidence. Enter Emma Speer…

I could provide a long list of Emma’s incredible qualities such as her expansive intellect, her ability to break down complex subject matter into digestible, easy to understand lessons, her strong work ethic, her professionalism, etc. However, her greatest strength, by far, is her ability to connect and build strong, trusting relationships with her students. From the time Emma first started working with Claire, not only did her grades dramatically improve (she made Honors from that day forward), her confidence in her abilities dramatically increased, as did her ambitions in respect to college and beyond. Simply, Emma had a profound impact on Claire and their close relationship continues today even though Claire is now a young professional with a full time job.

There are certainly lots of tutors to choose from and I am sure most can help instruct your child with various subjects. However, I would argue that there is only one tutor whose positive impact goes far beyond comprehending a difficult lesson plan. Emma’s impact will help your child view the world with increased determination and confidence, and as a result, will not only perform better with their studies, but will be better prepared for life.

So my strong advice is to hire Emma Speer immediately - before her calendar is full. You will be grateful that you did.

We first sought academic support for our daughter when school began to feel overwhelming and her confidence started to slip. Finding the right person who could be both a motivator and a skilled educator across multiple subjects and learning styles proved even more challenging until we found Emma. Emma’s positive, encouraging approach, combined with her remarkable ability to connect with a wide range of personalities and adapt to diverse learning needs, makes her such a gifted tutor. Since working with her, our daughter has become a more confident learner, less anxious, and more prepared for assessments and assignments. One of the most impressive aspects of Emma’s support is the remarkable range and depth of her academic expertise. No matter the subject or complexity, she brings patience, clarity, and dedication to every learning challenge. Anyone considering working with Emma should know that she is a thoughtful listener who goes out of her way to foster a supportive environment. She creates a space where students feel safe to explore ideas, take risks, and grow both academically and personally.
